There was a tornado in London shortly after we arrived at the airport there... That pretty much describes our journey, topsy-turvy and turned upside down.
The story is: We left on Wednesday, which was a gorgeous day to travel. Clear weather across all the US, so no weather delays... Unfortunately, it was such a good day to travel, Air Traffic Control got bolixed up in Chicago... So our flight to Chicago had to sit on the ground and wait for an hour and a half. We arrived in Chicago at the same time that our flight to Paris was pulling away from the gate, so we missed the flight. American Airlines automagically routed us to a flight to London, with a connection to Paris which would put us in to Paris at 2:00pm.
After thinking about that and the fact that our train from Paris to Lyon was at 1:10pm and we would loose any refund on our train tickets at exactly 2:11pm not a minute later, we decided to ask American Airlines to route us to Lyon from London. American Airlines, after hearing our situation with our train tickets, agreed to route us to Lyon through their partner airline British Air to fly from London to Lyon. Unfortunately by the time AA reservations had manually changed our tickets, it was time to board our flight to London and our luggage was on-board the plane already tagged and ready to go to Paris.
In London, we checked with American Airlines and with British Air and were told everything was A-OK, and that our luggage was being re-tagged in London to go with us to Lyon. We arrived at 9:30am and our flight to Lyon was at 3:00, so we had plenty of time to make arrangements and have a leisurely lunch and relax at Heathrow. We didn't realize that a tornado had hit London, we just saw a terrific thunderstorm when we were going from one terminal to the other... We just saw more and more flights delayed and some cancelled. Then our flight to Lyon was delayed first for one hour and then two. When our flight was loading we checked as we'd been told to see if our luggage was on-board... The answer was no, but maybe it will load soon.
When we arrived in Lyon, the bottom line was we arrived with just our carry-on luggage. All 10 pieces of our luggage, all our clothes, all our decorations, gifts everything did not arrive. But we are glad to be here and glad to all be well and healthy and we are having a great time. We had a great sleep, wonderful breakfast, deep devotions and we heading out for our prayer walk of Lyon today.
